Examining The Underlying Causes of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that affects nearly 12 million people in the United States alone. While these numbers are certainly staggering, researchers have come up with a myriad of ideas in order to explain what causes the condition to develop.
In our experience, as upper cervical chiropractors, the most common cause is a past injury to the neck or head.  From there the most common injury to the neck or head is a whiplash type injury due to a car accident.
With that being said here are some potential causes and a natural methods to cope with this life-altering health concern:

Factors That Are Known to Contribute to Fibromyalgia

Researchers have linked a wide range of contributing factors to the onset of fibromyalgia, which have led some to believe that a combination of things must occur.
Some of the connected occurrences include:

  • Neck or head trauma – Many find the onset of this painful condition follows trauma due to something like a car accident.
  • Stress – Heavy emotional stress may not only lead up to fibromyalgia but seems to cause symptoms to flare up as well.
  • Insomnia – A lack of sleep can substantially lower a person’s pain threshold. Thus, insomnia may not only lead to fibromyalgia symptoms but can also make them worse.
  • Depression – Since anxiety and depression are so commonly experienced by fibromyalgia patients, many researchers have considered whether these conditions are part of the cause rather than being a result of the distress that arises after diagnosis.
  • Genetics – Particular genes are more common for those who suffer from fibromyalgia. It is considered a possibility that emotional or physical trauma or perhaps even illness may trigger a response from these genes.
  • Illness – Some patients develop fibromyalgia after contracting certain illnesses or after being diagnosed with diseases such as lupus.
Relief From Fibromyalgia Symptoms In Dacula, Georgia

In many cases, upper cervical chiropractic care has led to the resolution of fibromyalgia symptoms. What is the connection? It goes back to some of the many factors that relate to the onset of fibromyalgia.
For instance, nearly all fibromyalgia patients have some kind of neck or head trauma or a repetitive injury in their past. That is why researchers always list trauma as one of the leading risk factors for developing the condition.
This is because such an injury typically leads to a misalignment of the atlas and axis, which are the top two neck bones that are found at the base of the skull. These vertebrae protect the area where your brain, brainstem and spinal cord meet and is a vital part of the body for interpreting pain signals.
An upper cervical spinal misalignment correction has been proven time and time again to help patients that suffer with this painful condition.  Are you a candidate for upper cervical chiropractic care?
